Emaar announces a $400 million expansion plan for Dubai Mall to enhance retail and entertainment experience

As per the plan, 240 luxury stores and restaurants will be added, which will further solidify Dubai Mall’s reputation as a premier shopping and dining destination

Dubai Mall, which opened in 2008, is the hub of contemporary retail and entertainment in Dubai. As the world’s second-largest shopping destination, it boasts an expansive 1.2 million square metres of space. With over 1,200 retail outlets, including renowned anchor stores Galeries Lafayette and Bloomingdale’s, and a plethora of international dining options, Dubai Mall offers a comprehensive shopping and dining experience. Moreover, it is home to a diverse array of entertainment options such as the Dubai Aquarium and underwater zoo, a 24-screen cineplex by Reel Cinemas, KidZania Dubai, Play DXB, Dubai Ice Rink, Ekart, Zabeel Sports District, and the luxurious Fashion Avenue, launched in 2018.

In 2023, Dubai Mall set a new record as the most visited location on Earth, welcoming 105 million visitors and marking a notable 19% uptick from the preceding year, coupled with exceptionally strong sales. To keep the momentum going this year, Emaar Properties has revealed plans for a significant expansion of the Dubai Mall. This expansion will feature 240 new luxury shops along with food and beverage outlets. The project, which requires an investment of $400 million (AED 1.5 billion), is currently in progress with the contractor initiating on-site mobilisation.

Announcing the impressive enhancement, Mohamed Alabbar, CEO, of Emaar stated, “The new Dubai Mall expansion is a great addition to one of the most visited sites in the world. We extend our gratitude to our esteemed guests and loyal customers, as well as our partners, retailers, and government authorities for their unwavering support. This expansion reflects Dubai’s ambitious vision to remain at the forefront of global innovation and culture, further solidifying our city’s position as a top global destination.”
